Ammer
See Ammer on the Oktoberfest Map.
Though Ammer is one of the smaller tents seating 450 inside and 470 in the outdoor beer garden, it is definitely one of our favorites. Ammer is primarily known for its crispy roasted chicken and duck. Though the prices are a bit high, the succulent, juicy chicken is certainly worth the premium, and it can all be washed down with a cold Augustiner beer.
Hosted by 5th generation owner Josef Schmidbauer, Ammer first came to Oktoberfest more than 120 years ago during King Ludwig II's time (the same king that is famous for building Neuschwanstein Castle). Schmidbauer's great-great grandfather, Joseph Ammer, was a poultry vendor at the Viktualienmarkt and first started serving his crispy entreés at the Wies'n in 1885, and the family hasn't stopped since.
With a band that rocks all night and more food than your group will ever need, you won't be disappointed spending the evening at Ammer. Ammer is a great place for groups, and you don't have to deal with the overzealous drunken Italians, you get amazing music and you won't find better duck or chicken on the Oktoberfest grounds (although nearby Poschner gives them a run for their money).
We always try to book tables at Ammer because of the rave reviews our clients give about this quaint and personable tent year after year...
