Craziness. Pure craziness. Get ready for good times when you go into the Hofbräu-Festzelt. Much like its sister establishment, the Hofbräuhaus in nearby Marienplatz, the festhalle has a reputation for attracting foreigners and partiers alike (most of them foreign partiers!). Aussies, Italians, Americans...you name it, they'll be there, and brave Germans will be around to observe! . In fact, if you're ever in Munich and you want a little taste of what Wiesn is all about, we recommend you sampled the world famous Hofbräuhaus!
The inside of Hofbräu seats 4,500 and another 3,022 outside and is the only beer tent at Oktoberfest that will serve you a cold beer without being seated! That's right---Hofbräu has standing tables where you can order from waitresses. If you dare look under the table, however, you might get a little grossed out. Broken glasses, cigarette butts, puke and left over pieces of random German meet might be a few of the things you'll discover. Click here for a photo.
Either way, you're going to have a great time at Hofbräu. Get here early or come late. It's usually pretty packed on the weekends starting at around 11:00 a.m. We're always able to sneak in for last call or a beer or two before without too much of a problem. The problem with all the foreigners is that many cannot handle their beer. This not only results in bad behavior, but it also ends up with a less than full tent by the time it shuts down....sometimes!
