A Neuschwanstein Castle tour during Oktoberfest is among the most popular destinations in all of Germany. The castle is an architecture masterpiece, but isn’t the only attraction during your trip. Guests travel via a luxury coach bus to the beautiful Algäu region of south-western Bavaria to the charming town of Hohenschwangau, near the Austrian border. There is a spectacular view around every corner, including the incredible surroundings while on Mary’s Bridge.
About the Castle
Located in Germany near Hohenschwangau and Füssen in southwest Bavaria, the majestic Neuschwanstein castle was built by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner, the king’s inspiring muse. Although photography of the interior is not permitted, it is the most photographed building in Germany and is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations.
About the Excursion
As part of your Oktoberfest package, you’ll enjoy a day excursion to Neuschwanstein. You will bus from Munich about 1 1/2 hours to the base of the castle, where you’ll have an opportunity for lunch. Be prepared for spectacular views, so bring a camera! (Note: There is a bus to the top of the castle for those who choose not to hike.) You’ll then have the chance to enter the castle and hear more about the twisted life and history of King Ludwig II and his mysterious death.
The tour takes up most of the day, but (as with ALL of our activities) it is optional. Just be sure to let your tour guide know ahead of time so they’re not waiting for you!
