You can't make a trip to Bavaria without visiting Neuschwanstein. It is, after all, the very castle that Walt Disney modeled his logo after!
About the Castle
Located in Germany near Hohenschwangau and Füssen in southwest Bavaria, the majestic Neuschwanstein castle was built by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner, the king's inspiring muse. Although photography of the interior is not permitted, it is the most photographed building in Germany and is one of the country's most popular tourist destinations.

About the Excursion
As part of your Oktoberfest package, you'll enjoy a day excursion to Neuschwanstein. You'll bus from Munich about 1 1/2 hours to the base of the castle, where you'll have an opportunity for lunch and to take a trip down an old Alpine Slide. From there we'll then hike up about 40 minutes (20 for the speed walkers) to the castle. Be prepared for spectacular views, so bring a camera! (Note: There is a bus to the top of the castle for those who choose not to hike.) You'll then have the chance to enter the castle and hear more about the twisted life and history of King Ludwig II and his mysterious death.
The tour takes up most of the day, but (as with ALL of our activities) it is optional. Just be sure to let your tour guide know ahead of time so they're not waiting for you!
